Women and gender minorities are still underrepresented in science. Initiatives such as the Women in Autophagy (WIA) network, which was founded in 2020 in honor of Beth Levine, a female pioneer in the field of autophagy, strive to improve gender parity in the STEM field.
A recent publication co-authored by SFB 1381 PI Claudine Kraft (project B10) describes the organisation of the WIA and how the network promotes the careers of underrepresented groups with a range of free, year-round scientific, mentoring and networking activities, which are open to all scientists.
