In April 2024, SFB 1381 PI Nils Wiedemann (Project A07) was appointed to the “Academia Europaea” for his “outstanding achievements as a scientist” in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology.
The aim of the non-governmental Academy is to promote European research, to advise governments and international organisations on scientific issues, and to support interdisciplinary and international research. The Academia Europaea was founded in 1988 and has by now about 5000 members across all reserach fields, among them 83 Nobel laureates. Appointment to the Academia Europaea is based solely on personal nomination and a multi-stage competitive selection process, and is for life after election by the Council of the Academy.
