ERC Consolidator Grant for SFB 1381 PI Valérie Hilgers

Dec 04, 2024

SFB 1381 PI Valérie Hilgers (Project B02) receives an ERC (European Research Council) Consolidator Grant worth 2 million Euro for her RNA research.

In her project, she will investigate how the alternative processing of RNA molecules in neurons enables the unique functions of this cell type and how these processes play a role in neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Using fruit flies and brain organoid models, Hilgers aims to decipher the molecular mechanisms that distinguish normal function from dysfunction in this tissue.

The ERC Consolidator grants are among the EU’s most prestigious and competitive funding opportunities, recognizing and supporting researchers whose excellent work has gained international recognition.  The European Research Council (ERC) awards the grants, worth 2 million euros each, to scientists based at European research institutions who earned their PhD between seven and twelve years prior to application.

More information about Valérie and the grant can be found in the press release of the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics.

Congratulations to Valérie!
